Things for the DOG
Traveling with a dog is not the most weight-shaving option but Milo is part of the family. Dogs can warn you of animals or lowlifes before they steal or damage your gear they make great sleeping bag warmers and the best of company. People are more warm and trusting of us when we travel with a dog, a great perk! He has made crossing the Canadian/US border a breeze and we hear a 10th of honking horns and swearing motorists as we do sans dog. Here's a list of things we bring just for the dog.
- Halter (we choose this over a collar for securing Milo in the trailer and having better control of him on rough terrain)
- Dog Tag (From Toronto Dog Registry, just in case)
- 2 Leashes, Retractable and 1m short leash (For securing dog in trailer and obeying on-leash requirements on some stops)
- Dog Passport (Contains information about vaccinations)
- Food and Water Bowls (we use two margarine containers and 1 lid)
- Food (We buy 1.8kg bags and store as much as we can in the food bowl to save space. This will change if this food becomes unavailable)
- First Aid (Tick tool, antibacterial soap, bandages, flex-wraps, polysporin, iodine, beeswax for paws. These items are already packed in our first aid kit)
- Comb (lighter and smaller than a brush)
- Coat (Milo has his own little coat from my sis Iz, it keeps him warm and dry in bad conditions and offers an extra layer for cold nights)
