Belleville's Patterson Masonry and Pavement Pros came out in early spring to lift the boat onto a Kooistra's Masonry's trailer and drive it to the Bay of Quinte. We couldn't have gotten our little boat into the water had it not been for their valuable help. Thank you guys!
Our focus through all of the repairs and additions was to make our boat and our lives more simple, more efficient and more enjoyable. We added a 12v, 15 amp solar panel, enough for our energy needs. My Aunt and Uncle donated an old bimini and dodger to the cause and with a few hours on Captain Ken's industrial sewing machine we found ourselves well sheltered and looking fabulous for under $20! |
We dropped Cicindelle into Stillwater Basin in Belleville, Ontario on April 27th and have been living aboard since. We fill our time with boat repairs and lots of sailing, rowing, swimming and water fun. Milo and Fea are regular "salt dogs". They enjoy the serenity of sailing and the excitement of unknown shores as do we. Through trading, refurbishing, manual labor and lots of networking we have managed to prepare our little boat and ourselves for about $1000. All of the food that David, Milo, Fea and myself have eaten in the last 7 months (with the exception of about $10 and meals at friends) has been foraged from those ever generous Canadian dumpsters. A great deal of our money has gone towards docking fees, a luxury that has enabled us to make repairs easily but a luxury which we are happy to do without in the coming months. Opting instead for the peace of free anchorages and docks. |
